Glossary

  • Affiliate Marketing:  A method for a company to sell its products by signing up individuals (“affiliates”) to market the company’s products for a commission or flat payout. These days in the adult business, affiliate  and webmaster are often synonymous.
  • Alexa: Provides stats  on the thousands of websites across the web.
  • Alexa Rating: The traffic ranking  assigned to a website by Alexa.com. Lower numbers = better ranking.
  • Backlink: A link TO  your site. For example: Your Site A links to Site B vs Site  B linking to your Site A. The latter is the backlink. Backlinks  are important in your search engine rankings because in general they signify your site is popular.
  • Banner: An internet graphic ad.
  • Console:  A pop-up ad displayed on website.
  • Conversion Ratio: The ratio of total hits to the number of sales generated. For example:  1/100 means: 100 people visited – 1 joined.
  • CPC (Cost Per Click) A dollar amount every time a surfer clicks on a specific ad.
  • CPM   (Cost Per 1,000 Impressions) A dollar amount every time an ad is displayed 1,000 times.
  • CTR (Click thru Rate) The ratio of users who clicked thru from a specific ad to the number of total users who viewed the ad.
  • FHG (Free Hosted Gallery) Photo or video galleries used to promote the web sites. Offered free to entice surfers to join a website. The galleries are hosted on the sponsors program’s servers rather than your own.
  • Gallery A page of thumbnails linking to full-size photographs or video clips.
  • Hardlink  A link to your web site that is hardcoded into a web site, rather than some other less permanent method (like a script).
  • Link Code:  A URL assigned to an affiliate containing a unique code given to affiliates to use in their marketing to track the affiliates sales.
  • MGP (Movie Gallery Post) Similar to an adult TGP web site, MGP sites offer thumbnails, usually larger in width than in height, that link only to video galleries.
  • Niche A subcategory or specialized category. Examples: Teens, Amateur Softcore, Hardcore, Big Boobs, etc.
  • PPC (Pay Per Click) An affiliate program that pays affiliates per click on the sponsors ad or website. Does not require a sale made.
  • PPS (Pay Per Sale/Signup) An affiliate program that pays affiliates per sale of membership product,, etc.
  • Google Page Rank: Page Rank is determined by Google and was developed to give surfers an accurate system of rating the relevance and popularity of the web site. PageRank is affected by the page’s Google ranking as well as the number of other web sites that link to the page.
  • Raw Clicks: The number of total  clicks irrespective of who clicked. In other words if one person clicks 1,000 times That is 1,000 raw clicks. It’s not 1,000 different people.
  • Rebill: A member of a website is rebilled automatically. Usually each month.
  • Recurring Revenue: Revenue paid to an affiliate from a rebill. Usually each month.
  • Referral code:  A unique code or number given to affiliates (usually a variable within a URL) that tracks affiliates sales – giving them credit for the sale.
  • Revenue Sharing: An affiliate program that pays affiliates a percentage of a membership, product, etc
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization)The process by which web pages are optimized to increase search engine rankings.
  • Sponsor: A company who pays affiliates for generating traffic and/or sales for the company.
  • TGP (Thumbnail Gallery Post) TGP sites offer thumbnails linking to picture and video galleries.
  • Thumbnail or Thumb:  A miniature version of a larger picture that is used in linking to a gallery page or full-sized photo.
  • Tube Site:  A free Youtube-style video porn site with advertisements for other adult pay sites or adult products.
  • Uniques: Unique hits/visits:  The number of unique (individual) visitors that have visited a site.
  • Webmaster: A person who designs, programs or maintains a website. Effectively the person who “run”s the site. These days in the adult business, webmaster and affiliate are often synonymous.
